Our journey through the piano scales continues with this lesson on A minor harmonic scale. Minor scales are created initially using the same notes from their relative major scales (in this instance, A minor is created from its parent scale, C major). Just using those notes, you come up with a "natural" minor scale.
Harmonic minor scales are a modification to natural minor scales to make it more useful to composers who want to mimic the powerful chord progressions in major keys - hence, the "harmonic" for the harmonies (chords) created from this scale.
